Calico Jo

Our family dog of 18 years.

We got her from my best friend's farm.

She was part Border Collie, part Australian Shepherd,
mixed with some heeler, corgi, and wild coyote.

She loved to lay in creeks before, during, and after long hikes.

She hated thunderstorms and most guns, but didn't mind chainsaws.
Here she is supervising a tree trimming expedition.

After a day of soaking up the sun,
she'd wander home with clumps of snow balled up around her belly fur.

And over the years she's gone through a few artistic renderings...

Murder in the desert...

A quick ink drawing and watercolor wash before I head off to book club.

Morning Sketch

Normally, I don't show anyone my morning sketches,
but this one turned out all right.

Stephen Colbert as a kid.

It started out as a shape I saw in the shower tiles
and then it took on a life of it's own...

The initial sketch...

A quick watercolor to determine color schemes...

And the final rendering.

Rocky & Boa

These are my cousin's cats.

and Boa.

They are quite the characters.

Rocky is more like a dog. He's energetic, playful, loves to roll in the dirt and chase crumpled paper. He does tricks for treats and if you're not careful he'll lick the grease off your freshly cooked pizza.

Boa is every bit a cat... Lazy, only wants affection on his own terms and is bitter about his captivity. He also hates people who exercise. He actually chases my cousin and her husband around the house, swatting at their calves, if they do any type of physical activity in his presence.

They're my muses today.

No time to explain!

A watercolor based on the picture below, which I find quite humorous.

more illustrations and what not...

I finished this watercolor of the Coliseum after watching Wreck-it Ralph this morning. Great animated flick. Witty dialogue, tight story and visually amazing. Those animators deserve an Oscar.

Here are a few other sketches I've done over the last few months.
