Solstice Canyon

This weekend I took a trip up Solstice Canyon near Malibu and explored the Tropical Terrace ruins. Architect Paul Williams incorporated the natural landscape to create a stunning mansion for supermarket magnate Fred Roberts in the 1950s. It succumbed to fire in the 1980s leaving only a few chimneys, some broken tiles and memories.

The lizards were out and about today.

the Croods

Caught the matinée showing of the Croods today. The animation is amazing and the story is funny and heartfelt. It's about a prehistoric family (with an overprotective father and adventurous daughter) who venture into undiscovered country with a progressive thinking cave boy and his trusty sloth as their guides.

This is a sketch of the Macawnivor -- a half macaw half saber tooth tiger.

Hiking Eagle Rock

Took a break to hike Topanga Canyon. Destination: Eagle Rock.

I spotted a few critters along the way.

Enjoyed some great panoramas.

And spent about five minute exploring the rock before the downpour began. If you ever want to know when it'll rain in LA, just ask when I'm going hiking. Three for three so far this year.

Venice canals 2.0

I'm waiting on my watercolor set to return from the northwest. In the mean time here are a few photos I took today at one of my favorite LA locals: The Venice Canals.

We had a stare down. I lost.
